A Dece Day for Ice Fitchin Guy

As you can see, this is an awesome spot to slay walters.  Lac du Flambeau, WI.

Shakesmeesh

Dear reader, it is time to slay thy bounty.  I’m speaking of thy bounty.  Well, technically it’s not my bounty, well…not yet anyway.   I’ve never wanted to put all my thoughts together and really crush walleyes first ice the way I do now, and I think it’s because I’m tired of staring into the woods.  I still need to shoot a big buck this year though, and in fact, I am sitting a new set in the morning which would have had shots at four separate bucks that cruised through sometime Sunday and Monday.  I was planning on sitting it this morning (Tuesday), but the ice bath I took on Saturday ruined my phone, even though it’s waterproof up to seven leagues, and this old one I have’s alarm malfunctioned and I woke up too late to sneak in and sit because I had to count cash at 0900 and do tree work around 1200.  But back to harvesting thy bounty of thy walleye.  Many lakes need to get crushed.  That is simply the fact of the moment.  “Why art thou not taking advantage of awesome spots I know will produce huge walters to feed my craving for huge walters, guy?”

Let's Cut Trees y'all

Tough to mess up tree work with a trough of tethered whiskers.

First Ice

A couple morning's in the single digits has produced the first walkable ice on the smaller to medium sized lakes.  Perhaps I was a little too amped because I took a nice polar plunge later in the day.  Managed four walleyes around dark but was extremely limited to a few patches of good ice.  Lac du Flambeau, WI.

Pre-Elm Removal

Removed a majestic elm tree that had acquired dutch elm disease with complete efficiency.  Video to come.

The Garden

T Gun's garden, wood display and living quarters.  Wausau, WI.

When the goin get tough...

Acutely searching for any shred of deer movement after a tough morning, Cousin Jake finds nothing of significance.

Monster Mortality

Above is an excellent example of monster fish bones arranged in such a way as to resemble a giant muskie, and in fact, that is precisely what it is, or was.  It was found recently on the banks of a small lake I row on a regular basis.  This particular lake is absolutely chalked full of muskies, which isn't ideal for trophy water, but nontheless has larger bounty, i.e, above.  Very few non-natives frequent this gem, and I hope you will not lose sleep over the potential of the lakes I frequent, as I have.

Boulder Junction

One of the Northwoods hideouts.  Boulder Junction, WI.

Opportunity Lost

A robust muskie grabbed my sucker and I proceeded to chase her out to deep water.  When I finally caught up to her, and set the hook, I was left without a sucker, harness, and weights.  Not cool, guy.

Slay Time

Poor day yesterday on the water soaking suckers in Vilas Co.  Great morning in a tree in Marathon Co.  A good level of deer activity coupled by a good amount of testosterone in the air has me foreseeing blood this weekend.

Pruning a Big Oak, Guy

T Gun and his wily ground guy prune this majestic oak to a healthier and more handsome form.

Domination

Me and T Gun had to dominate a bunch of birch today.  Mind you, a lovely day.  But a new moon was upon me this morning when I strafed into my stand and discovered that a mature whitetail buck is possibly using the hunting grounds as its own personal sleeping bag.

Matty Reefs on a Musk

Much to my chagrin, there was an unfortunate insident that occured just after this footage that is simply too painful to relive, and thus, reveal to the world.  Talk to my brother if you would like to know the happenings of these events.  Vilas Co. WI

Have you ever heard of the term grouse fever? It's real. I know, I have it.

A Likely Fate

How unfortunate for this now deseased bird to cross paths with an alert sportsman. Gillman, WI.

T-Bone Slay

A robust NP with near perfect aim.

Late Night Albino Fun

A classic albino whitetail deer sighting up here in the Northwoods. The textbooks fail to explain the flurry of albino deer between Boulder Junction and the Rez. I figure the amount of manliness dispayed regularly scares these poor quadpeds to turn old very fast like.

Taylor County Greaser

Last weekend was Grousathon '11 at the Klinner cabin, aka 'Timberdoodle Lodge and Convention Center'. Nine grouse, four woodcock, and one fawn all failed to survive. The gentleman to the left is much pleased.

Aerial Arborist: White Pine Removal With Zip Line

I work for my buddy Tom Lentz, he's an arborist and a bad ass tree climber. We frequently have to use our brains to conquer precarious jobs. Last Friday, the owner wanted his fragile plants beneath the tree he wanted removed to be unharmed, and they were, because Tom interjected an ingenious zip line.

The Rig

I have a healthy obsession for adventure. Aided by maps, tobacco, and a sturdy supply of testosterone, I do things like row troll for muskies, but not just anywhere; on class A waters with no documented access points.

Soaking Suckers is Awesome

I will start off my new blog with a bit of heart pounding muskie action.  The waters have cooled into the upper 50's here in Northern Wisconsin, which means soaking big, live suckers is ideal because the suckers live forever, well...until they get crushed by monster muskies.  In this video I have two rigs off the back of the boat, one out further with a bobber, and one nearer the boat without a bobber.  If you look closely, you can actually see the muskie t-bone the sucker behind the boat.  I proceed to set the hook as hard as humanly possible, and the result - a dandy of a muskie in the boat.
